Important information regarding Loyola Marymount University Student Health Insurance Requirement

All students enrolled in seven (7) or more billable units are required to participate in the Loyola Marymount University (LMU) Endorsed Student Health Insurance Plan. Additionally, all international students holding J1 or F1 visas must participate if enrolled in one (1) or more billable units.

Automatic Enrollment and Billing

The health insurance premium is automatically charged to the student’s account twice a year for each semester (Fall and Spring) if they meet the criteria noted above.

Students enrolled in fewer than seven (7) billable units are not automatically enrolled in the Loyola Marymount University Endorsed Student Health Insurance Plan but have the option of enrolling in the Plan. To view more information regarding the insurance coverage, view the Aetna Student Health Brochure 25-26 [PDF] 

Waiver Process for Students with Comparable Coverage

Students who have comparable health insurance coverage may waive the university-endorsed plan. To do so, students must submit proof of coverage through the online waiver process twice a year for each semester (Fall and Spring) by the published waiver deadline. Instructions provided below.

Please note:

  • Requests to waive health insurance after the deadlines WILL NOT be accepted.
  • Once coverage has been in effect for 31 days from the start of the semester, the premium cannot be reversed.
  • The Accident Insurance is mandatory for all students and cannot be waived.

Waiver or Enrollment deadline dates for academic year 2025/2026

Fall: September 26, 2025
Spring: February 6, 2026

To waive the student health coverage, students must log in with their single sign-on credentials (same login used for PROWL and other various LMU sites). Use the steps provided below, to navigate to the health insurance waiver:

  • Go to https://www.gallagherstudent.com/LMU 
  • Under Profile, click the Log In button
  • Scroll to Plan Summary, click the Waive button
  • You will need your health insurance information to complete the waiver
  • Follow the instructions and provide the requested information to complete the waiver
  • A reference number will be emailed upon submission, however final determination may take 24-48 hours
  • Once your waiver has been submitted, check your LMU Lion email account regularly to determine the status of your waiver

Students are strongly advised to review their current health insurance coverage and act promptly to either accept enrollment in the LMU Student Health Insurance Plan or submit a timely waiver if eligible twice a year for each semester (Fall and Spring) by the published waiver deadline. Failure to adhere to these requirements may result in NON-REFUNDABLE charges.
