Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA)

The Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) is a California law requiring employers, including LMU, to identify Mandated Reporters and secure acknowledgement of their status and reporting obligation as a condition of employment.

A Mandated Reporter is defined as an individual required to report observed or suspected child abuse or neglect to designated law enforcement or social services agencies. (A child is defined as anyone under the age of 18 years.)

Employees (including faculty members and other academic employees) and administrators whose duties bring them into contact with children on a regular basis, or who supervise others with such duties, are Mandated Reporters. This includes faculty, staff or volunteers who work with minors in academic programs, sports camps, or any other program involving minors.

The LMU Minors on Campus Policy requires that all Authorized Adults receive online CANRA training. The training can be obtained by contacting:
